OCHA Warns of Severe Funding Gap for Earthquake Relief in Afghanistan

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has warned that funding for earthquake relief efforts in eastern Afghanistan remains critically insufficient. Of the US$111 million requested to assist those affected, only US$35 million has been secured so far.

In a statement posted on X on Monday ( November 17), OCHA said that 211,000 people have received assistance since the earthquakes struck. However, it stressed that the available budget is far from adequate, noting that greater support is urgently needed to help vulnerable families survive the winter.
