At Least 13 Afghan Migrants Killed in Road Accident in Iran’s Sistan and Baluchestan

At least 13 Afghan migrants were killed and seven others injured after two vehicles carrying them overturned in Iran’s southeastern Sistan and Baluchistan province, according to local sources.

The incident occurred on Wednesday (November 12) in the Khash district of the province. Sources say the victims were attempting to enter Iran illegally when their vehicles overturned due to high speed.

A video shared with the KabulNow newspaper shows several bodies and injured individuals lying along a roadside following the crash. The tragedy comes as Iran continues its mass deportation of Afghan refugees and has suspended the issuance of visas for Afghan citizens.

With the visa process halted, many Afghans whose families remain in Iran are trying to reach the country through smuggling routes.

Taliban officials in Herat and Nimroz provinces have previously said they intercepted several groups of Afghans attempting to cross the border illegally into Iran.

Illegal migration of Afghan citizens to Iran has frequently led to deadly accidents, including vehicle overturns, along the dangerous desert routes connecting the two countries.
