Taliban Condemns Israeli Airstrike on Hamas Leaders in Qatar

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – The Taliban on Tuesday condemned Israel’s airstrike on Hamas leadership in Doha, Qatar, calling it a “savage act” and a violation of human and political norms.

In a statement, Taliban deputy spokesperson Hamdullah Fitrat extended condolences to the families of “Palestinian mujahideen” and prayed for paradise for those killed.

The Taliban also criticized international organizations and influential countries for remaining silent in the face of repeated actions by what it called the “Zionist regime,” describing this inaction as “deeply regrettable.”

“We strongly condemn the aggression against the country of Qatar and the targeting of the political office of the Islamic Hamas movement. We consider it a savage act that contradicts all human norms,” the statement said.

“We demand that the ongoing aggressions and terror by Israel be stopped immediately, that the sovereignty of countries be respected, and that the current oppression, terror, and injustice against the oppressed Muslims of Palestine come to an end,” it added.

Israel carried out the strike on senior Hamas leaders in a residential building in Doha on Tuesday afternoon. Israeli officials told Reuters the attack targeted top Hamas figures, including Khalil al-Hayya, the group’s exiled Gaza chief and chief negotiator.

Hamas announced its leadership survived the strike, but six others, including a Qatari security officer, were killed.

Qatar, which has mediated ceasefire talks alongside Egypt during the nearly two-year-old war in Gaza, condemned the attack as “cowardly” and a violation of international law.
