KABUL – Sources in Herat say a man stabbed three members of his family, his wife, mother, and 11-year-old daughter, to death in the city’s eighth district.
A source told KabulNow that the incident took place on Sunday night (August 24) in the Bagh-e-Nazargah area of Herat city. According to the source, the accused man returned home under the influence of drugs, first killing his young wife and then stabbing his mother and daughter before fleeing the scene.
Taliban authorities in Herat have not commented on the killings, and further details remain unclear.
Murders and violent crimes are reported almost daily from provinces across Afghanistan. In the past two days alone, at least three people have been killed in Helmand and Kandahar.
The case highlights the deteriorating quality of life under Taliban rule, where poverty, unemployment, drug addiction, and lack of mental health support have deepened Afghanistan’s social crisis. With the collapse of institutions and services, families are increasingly vulnerable to violence behind closed doors.
Human rights groups have documented hundreds of cases of gender-based violence, including femicide, since the Taliban’s return to power. Women and girls in particular face heightened risks as restrictions on their rights have stripped them of social protections and access to justice.
