Afghan Woman, Her Three Children Killed in Tehran As Anti-Migrant Sentiment Grow

KABUL – Iranian media have reported the discovery of the bodies of an Afghan woman and her three children inside their residence in the Morteza Gerd area of Tehran.

According to Rokna News Agency, neighbors alerted police on Friday, prompting the dispatch of a criminal investigation team. The woman had reportedly been killed with a sharp object, while her three young children are believed to have been suffocated.

Forensic experts at the scene estimated that the murders occurred approximately ten days prior to the discovery of the bodies.

Haft-e Sobh news outlet reported that the woman was the second wife of an Afghan man who had recently returned to Afghanistan. She had been living alone with her children in a rented home at the time of the killings.

Iranian authorities have not yet commented regarding the incident.

The case has added to growing concern about the safety and treatment of Afghan migrants in Iran, amid a backdrop of increasing disappearances and killings. In a recent case, Amir Taha Rezaei, an 18-year-old Afghan migrant, was found dead in a garden in Damavand, near Tehran, after being reported missing.

These incidents come as Iran continues mass deportations of Afghan migrants, accompanied by widespread reports of mistreatment by authorities.

Human rights organizations warn that anti-migrant sentiment is intensifying in Iranian society, contributing to a more hostile and dangerous environment for refugees and displaced Afghans.
