KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – Tim Burchett, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, has announced that a bill aimed at halting financial assistance to the Taliban has been passed by the House.
In a post on X on June 23, Burchett stated that the bill, titled “No Tax Dollars for Terrorists,” was successfully passed. He first introduced the legislation in January 2024.
According to Burchett, the bill requires the U.S. Department of State to establish and enforce a policy opposing any form of foreign aid to the Taliban. It also mandates detailed reporting on any financial assistance to Afghanistan, including steps to ensure the Taliban cannot access the funds.
He further noted that the bill includes provisions for oversight of the Afghan Trust Fund and Afghanistan’s central bank.
Burchett has repeatedly alleged that the Taliban are benefiting from U.S. financial aid meant for the Afghan people, and has long pushed for such funding to be cut off. The bill had previously cleared the House Foreign Affairs Committee before being passed by the full House.
