KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – Three people, including a 7-year-old boy, were found dead in separate incidents across Afghanistan on Tuesday, highlighting a surge in mysterious killings and criminal activity in the country.
Local sources told KabulNow that the child, who had gone missing two weeks ago in Zaranj, the capital of southwestern Nimruz province, was discovered dead inside a water reservoir. The motive remains unclear, and no suspects have been identified. The Taliban has confirmed the incident and says an investigation is underway.
In a separate case the same day, unidentified gunmen shot and killed a man in Tarinkot, the capital of central Uruzgan province. The motive behind the shooting remains unknown. Taliban authorities say several suspects have been arrested in connection with the case.
Meanwhile, in eastern Nangarhar province, a municipal worker was stabbed to death by a colleague during a dispute in Jalalabad city. According to a local source, the two men got into an argument which turned violent. The attacker fled the scene, and Taliban authorities have yet to comment on the case.
These incidents are part of a troubling rise in mysterious killings and criminal activities across Afghanistan. Last week, three similar killings, including that of a 5-year-old girl, were reported in the country.
In February, at least 25 people, including women and young girls, were mysteriously killed across Afghanistan, according to data compiled by KabulNow.
While the Taliban claims to have restored security since returning to power, these incidents continue to raise concerns over public safety. Human rights groups and activists have criticized the group for failing to protect civilians and conduct transparent investigations into these killings.
