Eight Injured in Clashes Between Taliban and Pakistani Forces at Torkham

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – Clashes between Taliban forces and Pakistani border guards at the Torkham crossing have left at least eight people injured, the Taliban governor’s office in Nangarhar has reported.

According to a statement from the governor’s office, the injured were struck by gunfire from Pakistani forces on the Afghan side of the border.

The office did not disclose their identities but stated that the Taliban’s deputy governor visited the wounded at Nangarhar Provincial Hospital and provided them with financial assistance.

Local sources confirmed to KabulNow that among the injured were three journalists from Shamshad TV, Pajhwok News Agency, and Radio Hurriyat.

The incident marks the latest escalation in tensions between Taliban and Pakistani forces, who have clashed at least three times in recent days.

The Taliban’s Ministry of Interior has confirmed that one of its members was killed and two others were wounded in the fighting. Pakistani media have also reported that several civilians were injured on the Pakistani side of the border.

These clashes come amid a prolonged closure of the Torkham crossing, which has remained shut for 13 days.

Negotiations for its reopening have so far failed to yield results, exacerbating trade disruptions and humanitarian concerns on both sides.
