KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – A young man was shot dead by unidentified assailants at his home in the Karte Parwan area of Kabul, sources report.
The victim, identified as Faramarz Karimyar, was originally from the Hisa-e-Awal district of Panjshir province.
According to eyewitnesses, at around 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 12, three armed men with covered faces entered Faramarz’s house under the pretense of conducting a search. They then opened fire on him before fleeing the scene.
Family members say the Taliban have arrested two suspects in connection with the murder, but the motive remains unclear.
Taliban security officials in Kabul have not commented on the incident.
This killing comes amid a surge in mysterious murders and criminal activities across Afghanistan since the Taliban regained power in August 2021.
Concerns over safety and security are growing among citizens, despite the Taliban’s claims of maintaining order.
Earlier today, another incident was reported in Herat, where the body of a young man who had been hanged was discovered.
A recent report by Rawadari, a London-based human rights group, documented 193 cases of killings and injuries in targeted, mysterious, and extrajudicial attacks over a six-month period. The victims included 181 men, 9 women, and 3 children.
However, the actual number is believed to be much higher, as rights groups cannot document all incidents due to the atmosphere of fear imposed by the Taliban, who pressure victims’ families to conceal such information.
Rights groups and activists say the Taliban have failed to ensure public safety and neglect to investigate these killings.
