Taliban Intelligence Arrest Former Soldier in Panjshir

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN The Taliban’s intelligence agents have arrested a former soldier in Panjshir province, local sources report.

The detained individual, identified as Mohammaduddin, was taken into custody on Sunday, February 23, in Abdullah Khil village, Dara district.

Sources indicate that Mohammaduddin previously served in the former republic government’s army but had been living a civilian life since the Taliban’s takeover.

The reason for his arrest remains unclear. However, the Taliban have frequently detained men from Panjshir, often accusing them of ties to opposition groups.

His relatives insist he has no connections to any anti-Taliban factions.

Taliban officials in Panjshir have not yet commented on the arrest.

Panjshir has remained a focal point of Taliban crackdowns, as it continues to be a stronghold for anti-Taliban resistance. In recent months, the Taliban have arbitrarily detained, tortured, or killed residents in the province and other areas with opposition activity.

Rights organizations have condemned these actions, describing them as collective punishment and war crimes.
