KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – Unidentified assailants stabbed and beheaded a man named Abdul Wahid Mohammadi in western Herat province, local sources reported.
Sources told KabulNow that the incident occurred in Jebrael neighbourhood of Herat city on Thursday, February 6.
According to sources, the man was originally from Jaghori district of Ghazni province and had been living in Herat for the past ten years. Sources said he was occasionally working as a shoemaker.
The motive behind the killing and the identity of the perpetrators remain unknown.
Local Taliban authorities have yet to comment on the incident.
This incident comes amid a surge in mysterious killings and criminal activities across Afghanistan in recent years. The country’s citizens are increasingly concerned about their safety and security, which adds to the mounting challenges they face since the Taliban’s takeover, despite the Taliban’s claims of maintaining security.
According to KabulNow data, at least 19 people, including women, have been mysteriously killed across Afghanistan in the past week alone. A recent report by Rawadari, a London-based human rights group, documented 193 cases of killings and injuries in targeted, mysterious, and extrajudicial attacks over a six-month period. The victims included 181 men, nine women, and three children.
Rights groups and activists have accused the Taliban of neglecting their responsibility to provide security and failing to conduct thorough investigations into such killings.
