KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – The National Resistance Front (NRF), an armed opposition group to the Taliban, announced it had conducted an attack on a Taliban checkpoint in Kabul, resulting in the deaths of two Taliban members and injuries to three others.
The NRF released a statement on Tuesday, October 29, stating the assault occurred the previous night in Kabul’s District 15. According to the NRF, none of its fighters sustained casualties.
Taliban officials have not yet responded to the claims.
This incident marks the latest in a series of attacks reported by the NRF in Kabul, where tensions continue to simmer between the Taliban and resistance forces.
While the NRF and the Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF) — both primarily composed of former Afghan security personnel — have concentrated their operations in Afghanistan’s northern and northeastern regions, recent months have seen an increase in guerrilla attacks within Kabul itself.
In a recent interview with CNN, Ahmad Massoud, the NRF’s leader, claimed the group has approximately 5,000 active fighters across Afghanistan and has carried out 207 operations this year.
The escalating violence underscores the ongoing challenge of establishing stability in Afghanistan as resistance groups persist in opposing the Taliban regime.
