KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – The Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF), an armed anti-Taliban group, reports an attack on the Taliban Ministry of Interior, claiming to have killed four Taliban members and injured two others.
The armed group stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that its “freedom fighters” attacked the entrance gate of the Taliban ministry on Friday, October 18, resulting in casualties among the Taliban.
The Taliban have yet to comment on the attack.
The AFF and another armed opposition group, the National Resistance Front (NRF), composed mainly of former ANDSF members, have engaged in numerous clashes with the Taliban across Afghanistan.
Both groups have intensified their guerrilla attacks against the Taliban in recent months, targeting Taliban members in major cities, including Kabul, Herat, Nangarhar, and Kandahar.
Earlier this month, the NRF reported an attack on a Taliban military base in Panjshir province, northeastern Afghanistan, claiming it killed 13 Taliban members.
While the Taliban downplay the impact of these armed groups and their attacks, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres noted in his recent report that these groups carried out at least 73 verified attacks against the Taliban between May and July 2024.
“The Afghanistan Freedom Front and the National Resistance Front carried out 21 and 52 attacks, respectively,” the UN chief said in his report.
AFF, led by General Yasin Zia, the former Chief of Personnel of the ANDSF, claims to have carried out 230 attacks against the Taliban in the last two years, resulting in the deaths of 600 Taliban members and injuries to 700 others.
