KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – The armed anti-Taliban groups, the Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF) and the National Resistance Front (NRF) claim to have killed and injured dozens of Taliban members across Afghanistan during the last week.
In a statement issued late on Tuesday, May 7th, the AFF, under the leadership of General Yasin Zia, former ANDSF’s chief of Personnel, said that its “freedom fighters” had intercepted and clashed with Taliban intelligence operatives in the KhairKhana neighborhood of Kabul city, resulting in the demise of four Taliban members.
Additionally, the AFF stated that the intense confrontation with Taliban members persisted for around ten minutes, with the bodies of “four terrorists” remained at the scene.
The statement indicated that the Taliban intelligence chief for PD 11 was present in the area during the operation, although it did not confirm whether he was among those killed in the incident.
Meanwhile, the National Resistance Front (NRF), led by Ahmad Massoud, claims to have killed and injured five Taliban members in northeastern Kapisa province on Monday, May 6th.
In a statement, the NRF said that its “brave forces” deployed an ambush in the vicinity of Nijrab district of the province, resulting in the killing of three “Taliban terrorists” and injuring two others.
“During this operation, one enemy military vehicle was destroyed and several weapons along with some ammunition were seized by the National Resistance Front forces,” NRF said.
In a separate statement on Sunday, May 5th, the NRF stated that its fighters conducted two special operations in support of recent protests in Badakhshan province. These operations, carried out in Kabul, resulted in the killing and injuring of seven Taliban members.
According to the NRF statement, during the first operation near the entrance checkpoint of the Taliban Ministry of Interior, two Taliban members were killed and two others injured.
The second operation, according to the statement, was carried out at the entrance of the ninth security district of Kabul city, resulting in the killing of two Taliban members and injuring one other.
Taliban authorities have yet to comment on these attacks.
Following the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan, many oppositions armed groups were formed, with a few still fighting the Taliban in many provinces. The Afghanistan Freedom Front and the National Resistance Front have been particularly active in challenging the Taliban, primarily in capital Kabul and the northern part of the country.
Both armed groups, largely formed from former security forces, have engaged in armed clashes with the Taliban. Recently, both have significantly intensified their guerrilla attacks against the Taliban across the country.
AFF claims to have carried out 230 attacks against the Taliban in the last two years. In these attacks, it says that 600 Taliban members were killed, and 700 others were injured.
