The road connecting five districts in northeastern Badakhshan province has been blocked due to recent floods in the province, according to a report by Taliban officials.
The Taliban district governor in Shekay district, Akram Taib, said that the road is currently impassable and that the group and residents are unable to reopen it.
He warned that if the group’s central government does not intervene, food shortages could soon become a problem for the residents of other districts in the province.
According to residents of Shekay district, the floods have also disrupted education as teachers and students have been unable to attend school since the road was blocked.
The situation has created serious problems for the residents, including potential economic hardship, increased food prices, and limited access to hospitals.
At least 47 people have been killed and 57 others injured in flash floods that have recently hit several provinces in Afghanistan.
The floods have also caused significant financial losses for the affected provinces.
The floods are the latest in a series of natural disasters to hit Afghanistan in recent years. Climate change, consecutive droughts, and deforestation have all contributed to the increased frequency of floods and other natural disasters in the country.
