Polio vaccination to kick off in eastern Afghanistan

Polio vaccination to kick off from tomorrow in eastern Afghanistan

Polio vaccination campaign will kick off on Monday across four provinces in eastern Afghanistan aiming to vaccinate more than 1.14 million children under the age of 5 against the polio virus.

“Starting tomorrow, over 1.14 million children under 5 will be vaccinated in Nangarhar, Laghman, Kunar and Nuristan provinces to protect them against the polio virus,” Polio Free Afghanistan wrote in a tweet on Sunday.

Afghanistan, along with Pakistan, are the only countries that have not been able to eradicate polio, with two positive cases reported in Afghanistan last year.

The vaccination campaign had been hindered in the past due to conflicts in some provinces of the country.
