Taliban arrest ten people for playing music at a wedding in Helmand

The Taliban in the southern Helmand has detained 10 people for playing music at a wedding ceremony. The men were arrested on Sunday night Marja districts, sources confirmed to KabulNow.

A video posted on social media appears to show detainees with their hands tied behind their backs, with their musical instruments (drums) placed in front of them.

Taliban local officials have not commented.

The Taliban strictly opposes playing musical instruments, including those that are native to Afghanistan’s culture and history.

Last month, Abdulhaq Hamad, the Taliban’s media monitoring head at the Ministry of Information and Culture, spoke to TOLONews and described singing and playing musical instruments as acts that go against Sharia law. He recommended that those who are prohibited by the ban should find another source of income for themselves and their families.
