A number of Bamyan residents held a protest rally against the murder of seven factory workers in the Surkhroad district of the eastern Nangarhar province. The protesters accused Nangarhar local and security officials of duty “negligence.” They asked the government to prosecute the local officials.
The protest was held on Saturday, March 06, in front of the regional office of the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) in Bamyan. They also called on the international community and the United Nations not to turn a blind eye to the brutal killing of the workers in the Surkhroad district.
“We ask the central government to introduce the local and security officials of Nangarhar province, particularly senior officials of Surkhroad district, to the justice and judicial organs for committing negligence in ensuring the security of the country’s citizens,” the protesters stated in a resolution issued at the end of the protest.
The protesters urged the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan and the AIHRC to investigate the murder of the seven workers and share their findings with the people.
The seven workers were “brutally” killed by unknown armed men overnight on Wednesday, March 03, in Bawli village of Surkhroad district of the eastern Nangarhar province. The dead bodies of the victims, who were reportedly all Hazaras, were transferred yesterday, Friday, March 05, to Kabul, Bamyan, and Ghazni provinces.
Attaullah Khogyani, the spokesperson for Nangarhar governor, had stated that the factory workers were “brutally” killed by unknown armed men.
Though the government blamed the Taliban for the brutal killing, the militant group has not made any comments in this regared so far.
