As many as nine Afghan security forces were killed after their checkpoint came under a Taliban attack in Pusht Rud district of the western Farah province, an MP who represents Farah province in the Afghan parliament confirmed.
Abdul Sattar Hosseini, an MP, said today, Monday, January 11, that the incident took place in Madigan Hill area of Pusht Rud district.
Meanwhile, Dadullah Qane, head of Farah Provincial Council, said 25 Taliban militants were also killed in the attack.
He did not give details about the number of casualty inflicted on Afghan security forces.
Located in the west of the country, Farah is a volatile province where the Taliban control a number of districts.
On the other hand, as many as four civilians were killed in a Taliban mortar shelling in the northern Faryab.
A statement issued by Faryab police said the incident took place in Dawlatabad and Shirin Tagab districts of the northern province.
The Taliban opened fire at people in the center of Dawlatabad district which killed two people including a security force and wounded six others, the statement said.
In a separate incident, a mortar shelling, which hit a residential area in the center of Shirin Tagab district, killed two civilians and wounded three others including women and children.
The Taliban have not yet commented on the incident.
Located in the northern part of the country, Faryab is an insecure province where Taliban fighters are present.
