Afghan forces launch massive offensives in Baghlan

Issuing a statement on Wednesday, October 16, the Ministry of Defense (MoD) said Afghan defense and security forces have launched a massive military operation in Dand-e-Shahabuddin, Dand-e-Ghori, and Kilagi of Pul-e-Khumri, capital of the northern Baghlan province.

The ministry said the operation will continue until a complete clearance of the province from the presence of terrorists and armed militants.

Located in the northeastern of Afghanistan, Baghlan is a restive province where the Taliban have active presence.

The Taliban had launched a broad offensive from several directions on Pul-e-Khumri around 45 days ago.

On the other hand, Muhibullah Sharifzai, spokesperson for Maidan Wardak governor, told Kabul Now that Taliban shadow district governors for Nerkh and Chaki Wardak districts of the province were killed in separate airstrikes carried out today, October 17.

The Taliban commanders killed were identified as Jannat Gul and Mullah Janan also known as Abid.

On the other hand, the National Directorate of Security, the country’s intelligence agency, has said that Afghan forces have killed a mastermind of Taliban attacks in Taloqan, capital of the northern Takhar province, and arrested nine other Taliban fighters in the province.
