Badghis and Nangarhar Natural Disasters Kill at Least 8 People and Injure Several Others

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – Heavy rainfall and ongoing natural disasters have triggered multiple deadly incidents across Afghanistan.

In the latest wave of such incidents, at least five girls have died and two others were injured in Badghis province, while additional deaths have been reported in Nangarhar due to drowning and landslides. These events are part of a broader pattern of weather-related disasters affecting the country in recent weeks.

In Badghis province, at least five girls lost their lives and two others were injured after a landslide struck the center of the province. According to the Taliban governor’s office in Badghis, the incident occurred at around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 25, in the “Baghak” area of Qala-e-Naw, the provincial capital.

The office stated that four of the victims were minors and one was a young adult. Afghanistan National Television, which is currently under Taliban control, reported that the victims were between five and 17 years old and that four of them were members of the same family.

Meanwhile, in Nangarhar province, three people have died in separate incidents involving drowning and landslides. Local sources reported that two young men drowned in the Kunar River in Kama district on Friday, April 24, while taking photos near the riverbank.

Their bodies have not yet been recovered, and their families have requested assistance from local residents. In a separate incident, a young man died in Khogyani district after being buried in a landslide while digging soil from a deep pit, when a section of the land suddenly collapsed.

Local Taliban officials in Nangarhar have not yet commented on these incidents.

Overall, over the past month, repeated incidents of landslides, flooding, and drowning have been reported from various parts of Afghanistan.

According to Taliban figures, at least 214 people have been killed and more than 300 others injured during this period due to natural disasters.

These recurring tragedies underscore the increasing impact of extreme weather conditions in the country, as heavy rainfall and flooding continue to cause widespread destruction and humanitarian loss across multiple provinces.
