KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – Taliban authorities in northern and southern Afghanistan have recently taken action against individuals involved in criminal and illegal activities, highlighting ongoing challenges in law enforcement across the country.
In Kunduz province, the Taliban’s provincial police command announced the arrest of three individuals accused of cutting down trees and clearing forest land in the Imam Sahib district. The detainees were apprehended on Saturday (February 7) in the Qarol Forest area, where they reportedly attempted to level the land with a tractor for agricultural purposes. According to the Taliban statement released on Sunday (February 8), the suspects will be handed over to the group’s judicial and law enforcement bodies for further investigation. Taliban authorities have previously arrested individuals for illegal logging, which has been prohibited since their return to power.
Meanwhile, in southern Kandahar province, local sources reported that a man accused of theft was killed during an encounter with Taliban forces. The incident occurred on Saturday (February 7), in the Biryani area of Aino Mina district. According to sources, two men on a motorcycle had stolen money from a local currency exchanger. During the pursuit, the exchanger collided his vehicle with suspect’s motorcycle, injuring and detaining one of them while the other escaped. The fleeing suspect was later pursued and killed by Taliban forces. Taliban officials in Kandahar have not yet commented on the incident.
Six days ago, local sources in Kandahar reported the discovery if the bodies of three women in Spin Boldak district under unclear circumstances, highlighting ongoing security concerns in the province.
Despite the Taliban’s claims of maintaining security, criminal activities – including theft, killings, and other violent acts – continue to occur across Afghanistan, reflecting persistent challenges in law enforcement and public safety.
