Norway Donates Nearly $1 million to Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund Amid Worsening Crisis

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – Norway has contributed 10 million Norwegian kroner, about $990,000, to the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund (AHF), the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) announced Tuesday.

In a post on X, OCHA Afghanistan thanked Norway for its support, noting that the funds would help front-line partners respond quickly and effectively to sudden emergencies across the country.

The donation comes as Afghanistan continues to grapple with one of the world’s largest humanitarian crises, with nearly 22 million people in need of assistance this year, according to United Nations figures.

Malnutrition remains a major concern. The World Food Programme estimates that around 3.7 million children and 1.2 million pregnant and breastfeeding women will suffer from acute malnutrition nationwide in 2026.

Humanitarian agencies have prioritized assistance for 17.5 million people but say they require $1.7 billion to deliver lifesaving aid. Funding shortages in recent years have forced aid groups to scale back support for millions of vulnerable Afghans.

UN agencies and relief organizations warn that conditions are deteriorating further, particularly for women and children, as Afghanistan deals with the impact of repeated natural disasters, including earthquakes and flooding, and the return of millions of Afghan refugees from neighboring countries.
