Man Found Dead in Nimruz Amid Rising Mysterious Killings in Afghanistan

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – A man was found dead in Nimruz province in southwestern Afghanistan on Wednesday, local sources said, as reports of mysterious killings and violent crimes continue to rise across the country.

According to the sources, the body was discovered in the Dasht-e-Margo area of the province in the afternoon, with visible gunshot wounds to the head.

The identity of the victim, the perpetrator, and the motive for the killing remain unknown.

Taliban authorities in Nimruz have not yet commented on the incident.

The discovery comes amid growing reports of extrajudicial, targeted, and mysterious killings in various provinces of Afghanistan. Rights groups and local media have documented numerous such incidents, raising concerns over security and the protection of civilians. The UK-based rights organization Rawadari recorded at least 251 cases of targeted or mysterious killings in Afghanistan during the first six months of 2025, marking a 30% increase compared with the same period last year.

The Taliban, who claim to have restored security nationwide since returning to power, face growing criticism from citizens, human rights groups, and activists over their failure to protect civilians and their lack of transparency in investigating such crimes.
