An Afghan national has been killed by Iranian border guards, local sources in Kapisa province say.
According to the sources, the victim was a resident of Tagab district in Kapisa who was attempting to enter Iran irregularly for work. He was reportedly shot dead by Iranian border forces in a border area of Nimroz province.
The young man, identified as Basir, had left around 12 days ago with a group of other young men, intending to cross into Iran. Sources say his body was transferred on Monday (January 5) from Nimroz to Tagab district in Kapisa, where he is expected to be buried on Tuesday.
Local sources describe Basir as an educated young man who decided to leave the country due to unemployment and economic hardship, hoping to find work as a laborer in Iran.
No information has been provided about the fate of the other individuals who were traveling with him.
There have been multiple reports this year of Afghan nationals being killed by Iranian border guards while attempting to cross the border. Around a month ago, reports indicated that at least 12 Afghan citizens had been killed in similar incidents.
