KABUL – Nine people were injured when a hand grenade exploded inside a mosque in Parwan province on Sunday evening, local Taliban authorities said.
According to the Taliban’s provincial police command, the explosion occurred around 7:30 p.m. in the Bagh Afghan area of Shinwari district as worshippers were gathered for prayers.
An initial investigation indicated that the blast resulted from the negligence of an individual entering the mosque, whose grenade reportedly fell to the ground and detonated.
The Taliban police said the injured individuals, all local residents, sustained minor wounds and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Authorities did not reveal the identity of the person carrying the grenade. Under Taliban control, only armed members of the group are known to possess military-grade weapons and explosives.
Independent sources in Parwan have not confirmed the details of the incident, and no arrests have been made so far.
