KABUL – Armed robbers shot dead an employee of a private gas company in western Herat province and fled with the money he was carrying, local sources confirmed.
The victim, identified as Farid Ahmad Faizi, 35, was ambushed around 4:00 p.m. on Monday (September 1) in the Kamar Kalagh area of Injil district while transporting company funds to an exchange office in Herat city.
He was killed instantly after the gunmen opened fire without warning. Faizi leaves behind two children.
The Union of Oil and Gas Companies in Herat condemned the killing and accused Taliban authorities of failing to provide basic security.
Violent crime has sharply escalated under Taliban rule. On Saturday, gunmen in Kandahar killed a 20-year-old man and stole his motorcycle. In the past week alone, at least seven deaths from armed robberies have been reported nationwide.
Despite Taliban claims of restoring order, citizens and rights groups accuse the group of neglecting security and failing to investigate crimes transparently.
Western governments, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia, continue to warn against travel to Afghanistan, citing widespread violence and lawlessness.
