KABUL — The Taliban’s Ministry of Industry and Commerce has announced that private sector entities from Afghanistan and the Republic of Tatarstan, a federal subject of Russia, have signed commercial agreements valued at $183 million.
The deals, inked on Thursday in Kabul, focus on oil and construction investments and were formalized during a visit by Oleg Vladimirovich Korobchenko, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade of Tatarstan.
The Taliban ministry said that traders and investors from both sides also explored potential cooperation in a range of other industries, including food production, helicopter manufacturing, electrical appliances, hygiene and detergent products, construction materials, water and oil management, and steel smelting.
During the visit, Korobchenko also invited Taliban authorities to participate in an upcoming oil exposition scheduled for August 26 in Tatarstan, and offered access to Tatarstan’s Chamber of Commerce and Investment.
The agreements coincide with discussions between Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, Taliban’s Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, and Korobchenko. Held at the Arg Presidential Palace, the talks emphasized expanding economic ties, including infrastructure and water projects such as transferring water from the Panjshir River to Kabul.
