KABUL, AFGHANISTAN — Two men have been killed in separate incidents in the provinces of Nangarhar and Nimroz, local sources reported, as mysterious killings continue to rise across Afghanistan.
In Nangarhar, a 28-year-old man named Ehsanullah was shot by unidentified gunmen in the Chamtali area of Khogyani district on Wednesday night, May 7. He was severely wounded in the attack and later died in hospital, according to one source.
The motive behind the killing remains unclear. Ehsanullah’s family members say they had no known enemies.
Sayed Tayeb Hamad, spokesperson for the Taliban’s police command in Nangarhar, confirmed the incident and said an investigation is ongoing.
In Nimroz province, a 40-year-old man named Haider was shot dead the same night in the Chino area of Delaram district.
Sources suggest the killing was linked to a family feud. Eight months ago, Haider’s brother allegedly stabbed and killed another man and is currently serving a prison sentence.
Three people have been arrested in connection with Haider’s killing, according to sources. The Taliban’s police command in Nimroz has also attributed personal enmity as the motive.
These incidents are part of a growing wave of criminal violence and targeted killings across Afghanistan, with similar cases recently reported in Uruzgan, Nangarhar, and Kandahar.
As such incidents mount, many Afghans are expressing increasing concern over public safety and a deteriorating sense of security, despite Taliban claims of maintaining law and order since regaining power.
Rights groups and activists say the Taliban are neglecting their responsibility to ensure security and failing to conduct thorough investigations into such killings.
