Taliban Intelligence Arrests Panjshiri Activist in Kabul

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – Taliban intelligence agents have arrested a social activist in Kabul, according to local sources.

The activist, identified as Shafiullah Athaee, is originally from the Abdullah Khel area of Dara district in Panjshir province, north of Kabul.

He was reportedly detained on Tuesday (February 11) in the capital’s Khair Khana area. His whereabouts remain unknown.

The reason for his arrest is unclear. However, the Taliban have frequently detained men from Panjshir in various provinces, often accusing them of collaborating with opposition groups.

Shafiullah’s relatives insist that he has no connections to anti-Taliban groups.

They also noted that he was previously arrested by the Taliban two years ago and spent six months in custody.

Panjshir province has been a focal point of Taliban crackdowns, as it remains a hub for anti-Taliban resistance. In recent months, the Taliban have arbitrarily arrested, tortured, or killed hundreds of residents in the province and areas with anti-Taliban presence.

Rights organizations have condemned the Taliban’s actions in Panjshir, describing them as collective punishment and potential war crimes.
