KABUL, AFGHANISTAN — The National Resistance Front (NRF), an armed anti-Taliban group, announced it conducted 22 attacks against the Taliban in eight provinces between December 21 and January 19, resulting in 35 deaths and 30 injuries among Taliban fighters.
In a statement on Monday, the NRF reported that the attacks occurred in Kabul, Takhar, Kapisa, Badakhshan, Kunduz, Badghis, Farah, and Herat.
The group also claimed to have destroyed five Taliban military vehicles and seized dozens of weapons during the operations.
To minimize risks to non-combatants, many of the attacks were reportedly carried out at night, NRF said.
The NRF added that no casualties were reported among its forces, nor were civilians harmed.
Formed after the U.S. withdrawal and the Taliban’s return to power in August 2021, the NRF is composed mainly of former Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) personnel and is led by Ahmad Massoud.
The group has been involved in frequent clashes with the Taliban, particularly in Panjshir, Kabul, and surrounding provinces.
In its annual report, the NRF claimed to have conducted 150 targeted operations across 17 provinces in the past year, resulting in over 400 Taliban casualties.
