KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – The Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF), an anti-Taliban armed group, has claimed responsibility for an attack on a Taliban checkpoint in Kunduz, killing four Taliban members and wounding two others.
In a statement released by the group, the AFF reported that the attack occurred on the evening of January 13 in the fourth district of Kunduz city.
The AFF did not disclose whether any of its own forces suffered casualties during the attack.
The group indicated that in recent days, the Taliban have intensified security measures in Kunduz and Panjshir, establishing checkpoints and conducting house-to-house searches to detain former security personnel from the previous Afghan government.
Taliban officials in Kunduz have not yet commented on the attack.
This incident is part of an ongoing surge in guerrilla-style attacks by the AFF and other armed opposition groups, including the National Resistance Front.
Both groups, composed largely of former Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) personnel, have targeted the Taliban in key cities such as Kabul, Herat, Nangarhar, and Kandahar.
The AFF, under the leadership of General Yasin Zia, the former Chief of Personnel of the ANDSF, claims to have carried out 230 attacks against the Taliban over the past two years. According to the group’s estimates, these operations have resulted in 600 Taliban deaths and 700 injuries.
