KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – The National Resistance Front (NRF), an armed anti-Taliban group, announced that it had carried out an attack near the Taliban Ministry of Interior in Kabul, killing and injuring 15 Taliban members.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the NRF said that the “targeted operation,” conducted around 9:30 AM local time on Saturday, December 28, killed 10 Taliban members, including a commander, and injured five others.
The NRF further stated that three Taliban military vehicles were destroyed in the attack.
“The operation caused no harm to civilians or the brave freedom fighters of the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan,” the NRF added.
Earlier today, local sources reported an explosion near Shaikh Zayed Hospital, close to the Taliban Ministry of Interior in Kabul’s District 15. The Taliban confirmed the explosion, with regime spokesperson for Kabul’s security department, Khalid Zadran, saying that four people were injured in the blast.
The NRF and the Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF), mainly made up of former ANDSF members following the Taliban’s return to power, have fought deadly battles with the Taliban across several provinces and have recently intensified their attacks in Kabul and other major cities.
The NRF reported earlier this week that it had carried out 25 attacks on the Taliban in several provinces over the past month, killing and injuring 71 Taliban members.
The group’s leader, Ahmad Massoud, said in a recent interview with CNN that the NRF fields approximately 5,000 active fighters. He emphasized that their fight goes beyond confronting the Taliban, as they are also targeting up to 20 other terrorist organizations operating within Afghanistan.
