Armed Men Kill Former Soldier in Parwan Province, Sources Report

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – Local sources reported that unidentified armed men shot and killed a former soldier in Charikar city, the capital of eastern Parwan province, on Thursday, December 26.

The sources told KabulNow today that the former soldier, identified as Abdul Rahman, was killed near his residence around 9:00 PM local time.

According to local sources, Abdul Rahman was a member of the police forces under the previous government. However, after the government’s collapse and the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan, he had been working as a teacher at a local school in the city.

Local Taliban authorities have not yet commented on the incident. However, according to sources, a man, whose two brothers are members of the Taliban, has been detained in connection with the murder.

Since the Taliban returned to power in August 2021, dozens of cases of mysterious killings of former soldiers have been reported across Afghanistan. The Taliban are often accused of being involved in these incidents, though the group denies the allegations.

This incident is the latest in a series of mysterious killings that have occurred in Afghanistan in recent years, raising serious concerns about the safety and security of citizens across the country.

Over the past two days, local sources and Taliban authorities reported the mysterious killings of two men in western Herat and central Uruzgan provinces.

In Herat, sources said a man identified as Sayed Ahmad Nohlaki was killed by unknown assailants in Ghoryan district on Thursday afternoon, December 26.

In Uruzgan, local Taliban authorities reported the killing of a man in Khas Uruzgan district on Wednesday night, December 25.

The motive behind both incidents remains unknown, and the perpetrators have yet to be identified and held accountable.
