KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – The Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF), an anti-Taliban armed group, claims to have killed and injured seven Taliban members in an attack in Kabul, the capital city.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the AFF stated that its “freedom fighters” targeted a convoy of Taliban police and intelligence inspection teams in the 17th district of Kabul this evening, causing casualties among the Taliban.
According to the AFF, after its recent deadly attack on the military section of Kabul Airport, the Taliban has intensified house searches and harassment in the area, creating significant difficulties for local residents.
On October 20, the AFF reported a rocket attack on Kabul Airport, targeting the military section, and stated that the strike resulted in significant casualties and financial losses for the Taliban.
Following the attack, several media outlets also reported that the Taliban have initiated house-to-house searches in the northern part of Kabul city, including the Khair Khana neighborhood.
Taliban authorities have not yet commented on this attack.
Following the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan in August 2021, various opposition armed groups have emerged, with some continuing to fight the Taliban across multiple provinces. Among these, the Afghanistan Freedom Front and the National Resistance Front (NRF) have been particularly active, especially in Kabul and the northern regions of the country.
Both groups, largely made up of former security forces, have engaged in numerous clashes with the Taliban. Recently, they have intensified their guerrilla attacks against the Taliban across Afghanistan.
AFF, led by General Yasin Zia, the former Chief of Personnel of the ANDSF, claims to have carried out 230 attacks against the Taliban in the last two years, resulting in the deaths of 600 Taliban members and injuries to 700 others.
