KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – The Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF), an armed opposition group, claims to have killed seven Taliban members and injured four others in attacks in Kabul and Balkh provinces.
In a post on X, AFF stated that its fighters carried out two attacks on a Taliban checkpoint in Kabul’s 11th district on Wednesday, September 11, killing five Taliban members and injuring two others.
The attacks, the armed group said, occurred 15 minutes apart near the Sara-e-Shamali and Badambagh areas at around 7:30 p.m. local time.
Local sources in the Khair Khana neighborhood of Kabul confirmed to KabulNow the two attacks, reporting that they heard the loud explosions yesterday. However, the sources could not provide further information regarding casualties.
In a separate statement today, the AFF claimed that its fighters killed two Taliban members and injured two others in an attack on a Taliban checkpoint near the Hazrat Ali mausoleum in northern Balkh province on September 12.
Taliban authorities have not yet commented on these attacks. The regime has previously avoided reporting similar incidents to downplay the impact of armed resistance groups and their activities in Afghanistan.
Following the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan in August 2021, various opposition armed groups have emerged, with some continuing to fight the Taliban across multiple provinces. Among these, the Afghanistan Freedom Front and the National Resistance Front (NRF) have been particularly active, especially in Kabul and the northern regions of the country.
Both groups, largely made up of former security forces, have engaged in numerous clashes with the Taliban. Recently, they have intensified their guerrilla attacks against the Taliban across Afghanistan.
AFF, led by General Yasin Zia, the former Chief of Personnel of the ANDSF, claims to have carried out 230 attacks against the Taliban in the last two years, resulting in the deaths of 600 Taliban members and injuries to 700 others.
