Young Man Fatally Shot by Taliban Gunman in Faryab

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – A Taliban gunman shot and killed a 26-year-old man in northern Faryab province on Tuesday afternoon, local sources report.

The victim, identified as Malang, was targeted near his mechanic shop in Maimana, the provincial capital, by a Taliban member named Sanjar Pahlawan.

The shooting occurred close to Abu Ubaid School, sources said. The gunman, affiliated with the Taliban’s criminal investigation department in Maimana, has been detained by provincial authorities, sources said. However, officials have yet to confirm the arrest publicly.

The motive behind the killing remains unknown.

Since the Taliban’s return to power, Afghanistan has witnessed a surge in targeted killings, with human rights organizations accusing the group of extrajudicial detentions, torture, and the execution of civilians, former military personnel, and ex-officials.

Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have raised alarms over these violations, suggesting they may constitute war crimes.

Despite the Taliban’s claims of maintaining security, Afghanistan continues to face a wave of targeted attacks, revenge, and mysterious killings.
