Unidentified Gunmen Kill Man in Badghis Amid Rising Mysterious Killings in Afghanistan

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – Unidentified armed individuals shot and killed a man in Badghis province in northwestern Afghanistan on Friday evening, amid a recent increase in mysterious killings across the country.

Speaking with KabulNow today, a local source who preferred to remain anonymous identified the victim as Aminullah from Qadis district. He was killed in Tagab district at around 7:30 PM.

The motive behind the incidents remains unclear, and the local Taliban authorities have yet to comment.

This incident adds to a surge in mysterious killings and criminal activities across Afghanistan in recent years. The country’s citizens are increasingly concerned about their safety and security, which adds to the mounting challenges they face since the Taliban’s takeover, despite the regime’s claims of maintaining security.

In the past two weeks alone, at least five other people, including a woman and a former soldier, have been killed under mysterious circumstances across Afghanistan.

Earlier this week, a man and his mother-in-law were killed by unknown gunmen in central Daykundi province. On August 15, two young men were killed in eastern Nangarhar province.

Additionally, on August 9, unidentified gunmen killed Abdul Zahir, a former member of the ANDSF, in southern Helmand province.

All of these incidents remain uninvestigated, and the perpetrators have not been identified.

In its recent report released earlier this month, Rawadari, a London-based human rights organization, documented at least 239 cases of mysterious, extrajudicial, and targeted killings, including those of women and children, across Afghanistan over the past six months.

The rights group emphasizes that the actual number could be much higher, as it was unable to document all cases due to the Taliban creating an atmosphere of fear and exerting pressure on victims’ families to keep such information hidden.
