German Foreign Minister and UN Special Rapporteur discuss human rights issues in Afghanistan

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock met with UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Afghanistan, Richard Bennett on Thursday to discuss the situation in Afghanistan and the need to support the people of the country.

In a post on X, the German Foreign Office stated that Germany’s “solidarity with the people of Afghanistan is unbroken” and that it “will not let go of standing up for their human rights.”

Meanwhile, in a post on Friday, Richard Bennett welcomed Germany’s support for the people of Afghanistan.

The meeting took place as concerns about the human rights situation in Afghanistan have grown since the Taliban took control of the country in August 2021. The Taliban has imposed severe restrictions on women and girls and has also been accused of human rights abuses against former soldiers and civilians in Afghanistan.
