Two girls among the three dead in Nangarhar and Faryab provinces

Three people including two girls were killed in separate incidents in the eastern Nangarhar and northern Faryab provinces on Friday.

In Nangarhar, the bodies of a young man and girl were found in the Kunar River in the Bangaw area of the Kuz Kunar district, located in the north of the province.

According to a local source, the young man and girl were killed presumably on Friday night by gunfire and their bodies were thrown into the river.

The identities of the two bodies and the motive behind the killing are yet to determined.

Taliban officials in the province have not commented.

In a separate incident in Faryab, the sister of a Taliban intelligence officer was shot dead in an armed clash on Friday in the Bibi Ayena area of PD 7 in Maymana city.

One source identified the girl as 17 years old who was killed at the entrance of her home when a bullet missed his brother and hit her while she opened the door to receive her brother.

The girl’s brother identified as Aminullah, who turned a fighter for the Taliban after abandoning the former security force, was hit in the leg when unknown gunmen opened fire at him.

Aminullah joined the Taliban fighters after escaping the former security force with a pair of AK-47. He was once ambushed by former soldiers under the previous government in the Pashtun Kot district of Faryab but managed to escape after killing one of them.

The cause of the gunfire clash that killed Aminullah’s sister and injured him is unknown.

The Taliban officials in the province have not commented.
