Taliban arrest former local police official in Panjshir

Local sources confirmed to KabulNow that the Taliban in the north-eastern Panjshir province arrested a former deputy district police chief on Thursday afternoon from his home village in Anaba district of the province.

The detained former police officer was identified as Del Agha who had served as deputy district police chief in Rukha district of Panjshir during the previous Republic government, toppled by the Taliban.

As per accounts of the local sources, the Taliban, after capturing Panjshir province, had asked the former police officer to work with the group but dismissed him after a while. Del Agha had handed over all weapons and other state properties to the Taliban and did not have connections with any anti-Taliban militias, these sources added.

The former police officer is now imprisoned in Rukha district on unknown reasons.

Local Taliban authorities have not commented regarding his arrest.

Since recapturing Afghanistan in August 2021, the Taliban have detained, imprisoned, and tortured tens of former Afghan security forces.

At times, some former military detainees have even died under the torture and in many other cases they have been shot dead by unknown armed men in different parts of the country, including in the capital Kabul.
