Blinken: International engagement with the Taliban contingent on the group’s actions

The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, has said that the Taliban’s demand for a normal engagement with the international community is dependent on the group’s action.

In a tweet on Monday, following a meeting of the G7 Foreign Ministers in Karuizawa, Japan, Antony Blinken said that they had “agreed that the normalization that the Taliban seek with the international community is contingent on their actions.”

Earlier, Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release that the meeting had condemned that Taliban’s restrictions on women, while stressing the need to “engage persistently” with the group.

No country has recognised the Taliban, but some regional countries, including Iran and Pakistan, have accepted the group’s diplomats in their capitals.
