Former anti-Taliban commander found dead in Badakhshan province

Local sources in Jurm district of the northeastern Badakhshan province confirmed to KabulNow that Nasratullah, who formerly served as commander of the anti-Taliban People’s Uprising Force during the previous regime, was found dead on Wednesday.

Sources detailed that the former anti-Taliban militia commander was abducted with a car on Tuesday afternoon from his home village of Nawa, in Jurm district but was found dead the next day in Baharak district of Badakhshan.

The Taliban district governor of Jurm, Qari Mahfozullah, confirmed his death but rejected Taliban’s involvement in it. But added that the former commander had choked to death with a scarf.

Nasratullah had called a resident of Jurm district and informed the person that he had been abducted and taken away by unknown men before his death,” the local Taliban official detailed, saying that further investigation was underway.

Another source accused the Taliban of being behind Nasratullah’s death.
