Sources close to the Taliban via a source in the Taliban-controlled Da Afghanistan Bank (DAB) say the plane carrying newly printed Afghani banknotes landed at Kabul airport on Wednesday, November 09.
Bakhtar News Agency (BNA), which operates under the Taliban’s control, reported this. The new Afghani banknotes were printed in Poland and the source in DAB declined to provide details about the amount that entered the country, adds BNA.
On Saturday, October 22 of this year, the Taliban-controlled DAB announced that they succeeded in printing Afghani banknotes and that the delivery of these banknotes to Kabul would begin soon.
According to the central bank’s announcement, the newly printed banknotes would be distributed based on reasonable monetary policies balanced with economic growth and necessity in the market, and the old banknotes would be systematically accumulated and removed from circulation in accordance with existing guidelines.
This is while the circulation of old banknotes in Afghanistan is considered a serious challenge and banks are also restricted in paying cash. Citizens and government employees in the country have always complained about the banks distributing old banknotes to them, but these banks refuse to accept the old banknotes back from them.
