A number of women who have been imprisoned in the Taliban prison in Takhar province complain about their status, lack of facilities, and management of their cases.
The prisoners complain that the Taliban’s courts have yet to announce a final verdict about their cases while they have passed nearly one year in prison.
The female prisoners have been arrested and imprisoned on charges various crimes, including murder, document forgery, extramarital affairs, and elopement.
One prisoner said that she has spent seven months in jail, complaining about the status of her case. There is no vocational training for women in prison and they suffer from mental illnesses, the prisoner further complained.
In addition to the slow procedure of the prisoners’ cases, another female prisoner said that they are not provided with basic materials such as food, tea, sugar, detergents, and clothes.
Tens of women are imprisoned on charges of criminal acts, said Qari Naqibullah, the Taliban’s head of prison in Takhar.
He called on the Taliban’s relevant judicial institutions to speed up processing the cases of these women prisoners.
The Taliban have arrested tens of people on charges of extramarital affairs in different parts of the country since their return to power in August 2021.
In some cases, the Taliban forces have even executed those accused of eloping and extramarital affairs.
In the latest case, the Taliban reportedly arrested a girl and shot dead a boy after they had eloped together. The incident took place on Wednesday, October 12, in Dawlina district of Ghor province.
