KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – Two young men have been killed in separate incidents in southern Kandahar and eastern Nangarhar provinces, one in a robbery and the other in a shooting between two families reportedly triggered by a dispute between children. Five other people were injured in the family clash in Jalalabad, local sources said.
In Kandahar, a young man identified as Ehsanullah was stabbed by robbers who stole his mobile phone. A source who requested anonymity told KabulNow that Ehsanullah was originally from Paktia province.
According to the source, the incident occurred on Saturday, October 24, when the assailants stabbed him and took his phone. He was taken to hospital but later died from his severe injuries.
In a separate incident in Jalalabad, the capital of Nangarhar province, one person was killed and five others were injured in an armed clash between two families.
Sources told KabulNow that the incident occurred on Saturday evening in the Daman area of the city’s eighth municipal district. The clash reportedly erupted following a dispute between children, after which members of one family opened fire on the other.
The shooting killed a young man identified as Murad and injured five other people, according to the sources.
Sayed Tayyib Hammad, spokesperson for the Taliban-controlled police command in Nangarhar, confirmed the incident and said several people had been arrested in connection with the shooting. He did not provide further details about the detainees or the investigation.
The two incidents add to continuing reports of killings and other criminal offences in different parts of Afghanistan, despite repeated claims by Taliban authorities that security has been established nationwide.
Deadly family disputes have been reported repeatedly in Nangarhar, with disagreements over children, land and property sometimes escalating into armed violence.
In March 2026, a man died following a clash between two families over children in Jalalabad’s eighth police district. Taliban said two suspects had been arrested in connection with that incident.
In September 2026, a dispute over land ownership between two families in Chaparhar district, Nangarhar, left four people dead and three others injured. Police confirmed the casualties and said two suspects had been arrested.
In addition, a 21-year-old shopkeeper, Hassan Khudai, was shot dead under unclear circumstances in the Kayan area of Khadir district, Daikundi province, on Friday, October 23. He reportedly called his mother after being shot but died shortly after his family arrived at his shop.
The killing of Hassan Khudai, a 21-year-old shopkeeper in Daikundi, also highlights ongoing concerns over public safety in Afghanistan, where reports of killings and other violent crimes continue to emerge despite the Taliban authorities’ claims of nationwide security.
Robbery-related killings have also been reported in Afghanistan. The latest incident in Kandahar, in which Ehsanullah was reportedly stabbed and robbed of his phone, highlights the risks posed by violent street crime.
