Two Workers Die from Gas Poisoning in Samangan Mine

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – The Taliban’s police command in Samangan says that two workers have died due to gas poisoning in a mine in the Dara-e-Suf Bala district of the province.

Hashmatullah Rahmani, spokesperson for the Taliban’s police command in Samangan, said that the incident occurred yesterday (Friday, March 27) in Dara-e-Suf Bala district.

He stated that the workers were residents of Bamyan and Daikundi provinces.

Rahmani added that the bodies of the deceased have been handed over to their families.

Gas poisoning in mines has previously claimed the lives of a number of citizens in the country.

Lack of technical equipment and failure to observe necessary safety measures are considered the main causes of such incidents.

Taliban authorities previously reported that at least 24 people, including women and children, died in gas-related incidents last winter, while nearly 900 cases of gas poisoning were recorded nationwide.

Similarly, one month ago, two people have died and two others were injured following an explosion at a mine in the Raghistan district of Badakhshan province.

The incident occurred on February 16 inside the mining site. The deceased were residents of the Yaftal district and had come to Raghistan to work as miners.

Mining accidents remain a serious concern in Afghanistan, particularly in remote areas where safety regulations are often poorly enforced. Many miners work under dangerous conditions with limited access to proper ventilation systems and protective equipment, increasing the risk of fatal incidents such as gas poisoning.
