KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – A young man was stabbed to death in eastern Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province on Saturday night, local sources and Taliban authorities said, the latest in a series of violent crimes reported across the country.
The incident occurred in the Bazark area of Khogyani district on February 28, where the victim was attacked with a knife and died at the scene from his injuries, according to local sources.
Taliban police in Nangarhar confirmed the killing and said that several suspects had been arrested. Authorities said an investigation was underway but provided no further details.
The killing is the latest in a series of violent incidents reported across Afghanistan in recent weeks, including armed robberies, targeted killings, and mysterious deaths in multiple provinces.
Since regaining power in August 2021, the Taliban have claimed to have restored nationwide security. However, residents and rights groups have expressed concerns over increasing violence and limited transparency in probes into serious crimes.
In a report published last year, the UK-based Afghan rights group Rawadari documented at least 251 cases of mysterious, targeted and extrajudicial killings over a six-month period, marking a 30% increase compared with the same period the previous year.
