KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – Local sources in Laghman say the body of a man has been discovered in Qargha district, in the east of Afghanistan, in what appears to be another case of a so-called “mysterious killing.”
According to the sources, the victim, identified as Abdul Aziz, 34, was found on Saturday (14 February) in agricultural fields in the “Chahar Bagh” village of Qargha district. His hands were reportedly tied, and he had been shot dead.
The motive behind the killing remains unclear. Local Taliban authorities in Laghman have not yet commented publicly on the incident.
The case comes amid continued reports of unexplained killings across different parts of the country. In a separate incident, local sources said the bodies of three women were discovered in Spin Boldak district of Kandahar province. The bodies were reportedly found on 2 February near Sargo Mountain, buried in a sack. Initial findings suggest the women had been killed several months earlier before their bodies were concealed near the mountain.
In recent months, there have been repeated reports of similar killings across several provinces in Afghanistan. Despite the Taliban’s claims that they have restored nationwide security since returning to power in 2021, local media and residents continue to report cases involving bodies discovered under unclear circumstances.
In many instances, responsibility for such attacks is attributed to “unknown armed men,” a term frequently used in official statements and local reporting. However, the lack of transparent investigations and public accountability has fueled concern among residents and human rights observers.
