KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – A 24-year-old man was killed by armed robbers in his home in Khanqah district of northern Jowzjan province on Friday night, local sources said, as violent crimes continue to rise across Afghanistan.
According to the sources, the robbers entered the victim’s house intending to steal money and belongings. The man resisted the armed men and was killed during the confrontation. The incident occurred while other family members were away attending a wedding, leaving only the victim at home.
The Taliban security command in Jowzjan confirmed the killing, saying that one suspect has been arrested and an investigation is underway.
The incident comes amid a surge in violent crimes, including armed robberies, targeted killings, and unexplained deaths across the country. In the past three days, at least two other killings were reported in Kandahar and Nimruz provinces.
The Taliban, who have claimed to restore nationwide security since returning to power, face criticism from citizens, rights groups, and activists for failing to protect civilians effectively and for a lack of transparency in investigating violent crimes.
Western governments, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia, continue to warn their citizens against traveling to Afghanistan due to widespread violence, armed robberies, targeted attacks, and lawlessness.
